Apprenticeships before 1850 in the City, Town & Parish

Shoemaker

Every society has to have arrangements in place to ensure that the skills needed in particular trades and professions are passed on from one generation to the next. For almost a thousand years, tradesmen in England have achieved this by serving an apprenticeship which equipped them with the relevant skills to independently practise their trades. Much evidence relating to apprentices can be found in record offices, and frequently provide valuable information for family historians.
